Session KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

The following Session Keynote Speakers were selected as high-ranking abstracts.

Dorrain Yanwen Low
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Dorrain Low is a research fellow in the cardiovascular epidemiology group at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC), a partnership between Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and Imperial College London (Imperial). She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Queensland (Australia) focusing on the chemical and gut-microbial biotransformations of phytochemicals along the gastrointestinal tract using mass-spectrometric-based technologies before moving to France on the AgreenSkills+ Postdoctoral Fellowship at the French Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), where she pursued her interest in metabolite structural annotation and identification (particularly, food-derived metabolites) using analytical and computational metabolomics approaches. She then moved to Singapore for the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship at LKC to carry out independent research on identifying dietary biomarkers relevant to regional dietary patterns. Dorrain has been at LKC for four years and expanding on her work towards nutritional and metabolomics epidemiology in the Health for Life in Singapore (HELIOS) study, a multi-ethnic population cohort.

Tomáš Pluskal
IOCB Prague, Czech Republic

Tomáš Pluskal is a Junior Group Leader at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. His laboratory develops new computational and experimental approaches for connecting plant natural products to their biosynthetic enzymes, and for engineering novel biosynthetic circuits using synthetic biology tools. Tomáš has an interdisciplinary background in computer science (MSc) and molecular biotechnology (Ph.D.). He has been active in metabolomics since 2006, working mostly on fission yeast primary metabolism during his PhD at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan, and on plant specialized metabolism during his postdoc at the Whitehead Institute (MIT) in the U.S. In the metabolomics community, he is widely recognized as the lead developer of the popular MZmine software for mass spectrometry data processing.

Tomer Schlomi
Metasight Diagnostics LTD, Isreal

Tomer is a Professor of Computer Science and Biology at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology), where he heads the Laboratory for Cancer Metabolism and Systems Biology.  Tomer joined Technion in 2008 after completing his PhD in Computer Science at Tel-Aviv University. Between 2011 and 2013, Tomer was a visiting Associate Research Scholar in the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University. Tomer’s lab focuses on developing experimental-computational approaches for exploring cellular metabolism at a high spatial-temporal resolution; Identifying metabolic vulnerabilities in tumors that can be therapeutically exploited; cancer immunometabolism; and developing of mass-spectrometry metabolomics and proteomics methods. https://metsysbio.net.technion.ac.il/

Tomer is founder of MetaSight Diagnostics LTD – a start-up company developing liquid biopsy diagnostics for a variety of chronic and acute diseases based on high-throughput mass-spectrometry multi-OMICS technologies. Tomer is currently serving as CEO of MetaSight Diagnostics, while on sabbatical from Technion. https://metasightdx.com/

Craig Wheelock
Karolinska Institutet, Sweeden

Craig Wheelock is Head of the Unit of Integrative Metabolomics in the Institute of Environmental Medicine at the Karolinska Institute (KI), where he serves as director of the Integrative Molecular Phenotyping Laboratory and the small molecule mass spectrometry core facility (KI-SMMS). He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Metabolomics at Gunma University, Japan. Following pre- and post-doctoral work on lipid mediators at the University of California Davis, he conducted post-doctoral studies at the KEGG laboratory in Kyoto University. In 2006, he was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship to relocate to the KI. Research in his group focuses on molecular phenotyping of respiratory disease, with a particular interest in investigating the role of lipid mediators. The overarching aim is to identify personalized molecular profiles that can be associated with an individual’s lifestyle, environmental exposure and susceptibility to asthma. He was a Board Member of the International Metabolomics Society from 2016-2020, a founding Board Member of the Nordic Metabolomics Society from 2017-2021, and currently serves on the Metabolomic Epidemiology Task Group as well as on the European Respiratory Society Advocacy Council as the Director of Scientific Relations with the EU. When not balancing his time between Sweden and Japan, he enjoys teaching his kids to kayak and SUP paddling with his dog.
